Our kayaking adventure is a peaceful way to enjoy a day or overnight kayaking tour on Lake Sirinumu, a huge water reservoir that was created by the damming of the Upper Laloki River. Highlights of the tour include hikes in pristine areas, having a refresh in a stunning waterfall, overnight camping on Escape Island and being able to get up close and personal to Birds of Paradise congregating at a stopping point (without getting TOO up close and personal of course!)
This is a perfect day or overnight tour and can easily be added to a trek along the Kokoda Track or, enjoy it on its own!
Booking Dates: Please contact us as tours are booked on a day-to-day basis and can be booked on 24 hours notice.

Overnight Camping Kayaking Tour: U$140 Minimum 4 people Maximum 7
We have an early start in the morning. Our pickup point is the hotel car park at 6:30 am. Our transport vehicle will get us to Sirinumu Dam, taking approximately 2 hours. Depending on the road conditions from the main road to Sirinumu Dam, as some sections of the road are not sealed, the road can be very difficult during the wet season, increasing the time to get to our destination.
We will be met by our tour guide at Sirinumu Dam upon our arrival. Our guide will provide us with details about the day’s activities as well as instructions on the use of the kayaks for those who are not yet familiar with kayaking and important safety information for everyone.
Our kayaking adventure begins at 9:00 am and our destination is Escape Island on Naunumu.
This short jaunt across the lake should take approximately 20 minutes and Escape Island provides an ideal camping spot for our overnight stays, complete with hiking, team bonding, bird watching, kayaking, opportunities for play and some relaxation.
From Escape Island, we paddle on to Berebei Village, spending about 30 minutes on the water. Once we have our land legs back, we leave our kayak at the village and embark on an unforgettable and adventurous hike into the wild beauty of the Berebei Range. Our hike takes us to the majestic Ovadava Falls at Sisivatana (seasonal) which is available for those who want to experience the power of the falls as they refresh in the wild. After a short rest at Womae and once we’ve captured some stunning photos at the scenic viewpoints, we are off again!
From Womae, we hike for another 30 minutes, and we finally arrive at the top of Mt Bemudai. Here, you will begin to hear the Birds of Paradise calling each other. This is a rare opportunity to see the elusive Birds of Paradise gather in one place. This is truly one of nature’s most mesmerizing sights and sounds. This once-in-a-lifetime experience is a must for nature enthusiasts. Cameras are a must!
Mt Bemudai also offers a panoramic view of the surrounding villages near Sirinumu Dam. This is our opportunity to hike through lush green forest, look out upon breathtaking vistas (cameras in hand again!), and possibly encounter (at a distance) some of the local wildlife.
After resting at Mt Bemudai, we hike for approximately 20 minutes to arrive again at Ovadava Falls. We spend some time here and return to Mt Bemudai. Descending from Mt Bemudai our return route takes us through the Wamaenumu Range, and we finally find a respite at Tumutu Komara. At Tumutu Komara, we can have a quick refresh in the river there and then get into our kayak returning to the Escape Island campsite.
For overnight tours, this will be our home for the night. After a local-cuisine-focused dinner, we head to bed for some much needed rest, staying at a local accommodation. After breakfast, we pack up and, depending on conditions, fit in one last exploration of the area by foot and then ultimately make our way back to the pickup point where we are transported back to the hotel, arriving during the afternoon (ETA is dependent on road conditions).
For the day tours, from Tumutu Komara we travel to Escape Island where we all travel to the pickup point where our vehicle is waiting to take us back to our hotel arriving at approximately 5 pm
